Best Sections of All-Time: Jordy Smith in Stranger Than Fiction

I was talking to Aussie legend Jackson Baker the other day. One thing he shared with me were a few of his favorite sections of all-time, so for the next few weeks, you’ll be seeing Jacko’s picks.

After a messy break-up with his long-time supporter Billabong, Jordy Smith instigated a bidding war across the industry for the nose of his surfboard. Everyone wanted a piece, and as you can see here, O’Neill is where he landed.

For many years this was my go-to pre surf pump up section. Some of the craziest surfing I’ve ever seen, still to this day blows my mind.

Pretty cool to have grown up watching this section and admiring Jordy’s surfing then to be able to compete against him on tour in a few heats.

I really enjoy this section because of the variety of maneuvers. Huge carves, turns, and massive technical airs.
