Best Sections of All-Time: Taj Burrow in Trilogy

There’s a lot of talk about Trilogy happening today. That’s because there’s a sequel-light version coming in September starring Griffin Colapinto, Ethan Ewing and Seth Moniz and the trailer just dropped on IG (watch it below).

Now, the parallels between the two groups are kinda sorta there, but there is a little bit of sacrilege involved in trying to sequel Trilogy — but I guess that’s what Hollywood does. We’ll wait to see the movie to review, but it brought up something that was once a hot topic and Taj articulates it well in this part and was the finest to ever do it and that’s juggle a “freesurf” life and simultaneously be a contender on the Tour.

This ability made me call Taj The Greatest Professional Surfer of All-Time once because I truly believe he was. He didn’t whine about going on surf trips between events. He punted and got “keeper’s galore” between events. And then he gave a serious run at every event he entered. So while Taj doesn’t have a World Title (and there are a few heats with Kelly that cost him that chance that I think were BS but that’s another battle) he is easlily the Greatest Pro Surfer of All-Time.

Taj articulates all this best in Trilogy — which all 3 of these guys (Taj, Andy, Parko) filmed over the course of maybe a year and a half between full-time competing. This other Trilogy has been in production for like 5 years and features Griffin in a Billabong sticker. Ancient history it feels like.

Today, let’s enjoy Taj and we’ll 100 percent look forward to giving Trilogy: New Wave a chance once we see it in September and hope we dont’ have another Point Break 2 situation on our hands.—Travis Ferré
