It’s not the end of the world.

Sometimes my friend and artist/filmmaker/photographer Michael Cukr will text me deep from a headphone binge or after he goes to a show in some abandoned warehouse in Carson or something with 3 or 4 new bands to check out. The best part of these texts are the variety in them. There is no consistency whatsoever and I feel that’s hard to do these days.

There will be some insane, somewhat horrifying black death metal band playing a show in rural Oklahoma that is somehow a beautiful gathering of youth slam dancing that is fascinating — despite the intense music. Then there’s a Silverchair-sounding 200s rock, ultra emotional-emo, ambient editing music, shoegaze, screamo-hardcore, melodic pop punk and the occasional (maybe) ironic challenge about a Linkin Park song or album he is reexamining from his childhood.

This week we talked about the bands below, which are worth discovering, the live show by Peeling Flesh he saw that changed his life (and may or may not make you feel warm and fuzzy that they exist or horrify you to your core) and then how we’re supposed to feel if we actual enjoy listening to Linkin Park’s first two albums Hybrid Theory and Meteora. Rap rock’s finest.

Discover below, thanks for keeping us on our toes, Michael. —Travis Ferré
