IB Premiere: Listen to Kip Nelson's new song "Celebration"

“Surf Music” is a historically turbulent genre conjuring up visions of everything from Jack Johnson to the Growlers, Beach Boys and Dick Dale to TSOL and Blink 182. But here, Santa Barbara songwriter and musician Kip Nelson might have settled the sound down into what it actually is: songs drenched in haze, psychedelia and sprinkled with warm sand and salt.

“This song is about an Elysian mirage found on a journey through the desert,” Kip says. “I wrote it about finding and thriving in a universe of untapped space and celebrating isolation as a form of freedom.”

Isolation as a form of freedom? We’ll go ahead and agree to celebrate that with ya since we have no other option right now. But this tune does make isolation more cruisy. Drink it in, let it go.
