12 Songs: I Hate the Blues

12 Songs: I Hate the Blues

To put it bluntly - in the undying words of Dead Moon’s Fred Cole - “I Hate The Blues.” I’m not exactly sure why this is, but I suspect it has something to do with that cold, unresolved feeling one gets from being forced to sit through an entire twelve bar bruise sequence, the sameness of the lyrics, the predictability of it all.

That being said, I can make exceptions for when the bluesmen happen to be armed with fuzz pedals and marshall stacks - when the blues cease to sound like “the blues.” In this environment, the energy becomes palpable, sparks start flying from the speakers, there’s blood on the stage, and (hopefully) the singer isn’t moping about his dog anymore.  —Jackson Todd
