Notes from the Underground

Notes from the Underground

Ah yes, finally. That gentle tug of the weekend is setting in. We got everything you need to know, see watch and attend lined up here in our first Notes from the Underground of 2024. See you out there.

-The Mainliners, who you may remember from The Inherent Bummer Factory by the Sea, are headlining a show at Tiki Bar in Costa Mesa Friday, January 19th @ 7:00pm. Bay Block, featured in our first season of Reel Talk, is on the bill too. So there’s a high likelihood we’re all there too.

-XO COCO, a collaboration between Coco Ho and Matt Parker launches. They plan to employ women through every step of the board-building process. Coco mentioned that a board demo during the Hawaii winter season might be in order as well. Keep your eyes peeled on the sandbar. Their California showroom is now open: 1709 N. El Camino Real San Clemente, CA 92672

-Liam O’Brien leaves Billabong and announces partnership with Vissla. His biggest season to date, LOB won our hearts as one to watch on tour. He’s every bit as good off tour as well. Check out his film “Wandering” and his moment on the Reel Talk couch with Morgs.

-Speaking of Vissla, they have teamed up with AXXE wetsuits on a collaboration to bring to market a revolutionary chest zip design made of 100% Japanese rubber. The U-Zip entry is the culmination of over 35 years of handmade designs by the artisans at AXXE. Each suit is made by hand and features AXXE’s U-Zip entry plus the softest neoprene available. Check it out HERE.

-Western Hydrodynamic Research archive sale and headwear repair shop featuring past seasons will be on discount at their location in Costa Mesa, CA Saturday 1/20 from 10am-4pm. 1930 Placentia Ave. Unit B3 Costa Mesa, CA 92627

-LUNA LUNA: Forgotten Fantasy is now open in LA through March. Backed by hip-hop artist, Drake and DreamCrew, the show features creations by contemporary artistic icons Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, David Hockney and more.

-Matt Biolos has been a busy boy hard at work to get his team ready for the WSL CT season openers in Hawaii. Griffin, Cole, Kade, Carissa, Gaby and others flaunted their quivers on IG this past week and we must say that we’re extremely jealous. However, we’re psyched to see who puts them to good use at Pipeline this year.
