SURF: GLOBE’S NEW EMISSIONS OF LIGHT AND SOUND: THE DARK SIDE OF THE MACHINE
From Matt: “New Emissions of Light and Sound was one of the first surf films I saw in my grom years that really changed how I saw surfing. I grew up in the golden 2000s era of big budget movie performance. This one in particular was billed as a 'b-sides film companion to Secret Machine that' was “Best viewed between 12 and 5am” but I think it’s one of the most immersive experiences and didn’t really follow the normal editing style of the time.
I ended up working with Joe G, George Manzanilla and Scott Soens who made the film years later during a pretty good run with Globe — but man, it must’ve been cool to see them making it during that time when you could hideaway and experiment without worry about social content. Joe said the concept was to stay in the water and George ended up working/sound mixing with the electronic musician DJ Sasha on a crazy original soundtrack.”
SKATE: Austyn Gillette : Know You My Own Way
I got into shooting skateboarding accidentally through friends and jumped into it headfirst and learned alot about the culture as a visitor. I got to shoot some of Austyn Gillette’s effort for his pro shoe part when he first got on Globe. He’s super talented and can really just turn it on at any moment - so that was cool to be there for a lot of that.
