Reel Talk: BettyLou Sakura Johnson

Reel Talk: BettyLou Sakura Johnson

BettyLou has to be one of surfing’s most likable new faces. The Haleiwa local surfs with a few generations of Hawaiian surfing channeled and when she’s not ripping, you’ll find her tearing up the Kahuku motocross track.

She just won the Challenger Series and will be back on the Championship Tour for 2023 and we’re pretty confident her surfing represents an exciting gear shift for women’s surfing. She’s got pop, flair, speed, quickness and packages it with a Hawaiian approach that is reminiscent of young Melanie Bartels and Carissa Moore.

We got to hang with BettyLou during the US Open and learned she won’t change the station if you put on an 80s Madonna banger. Watch and meet her below. Bonus WSL profile we helped put together below as well.
