Watch the new Octopus is Real Movie: Mission Control

I saw Matt Payne walking the halls of the Dion Neutra designed Huntington Beach library recently, a place I believe holds special powers. It’s an architectural marvel and the fountains create an ambiance unlike any Starbucks on earth. Good things can happen in here. And there was Matt, laptop in backpack posting up.

Now I had known a new Octopus movie was coming for some time and the news around it was exciting. I knew Joe G was somewhere in the background and he was tight-lipped. I knew Matt Payne, a guy I surf with regularly was at the controls. All exciting stuff. “Is there a new Octo movie coming?!” read my barrage of texts to Joe and Matt every week.

Well, it’s out now and I finally sat down to watch it in its entirety and it was a breath of fresh air. The kind of fresh air that has a sludge-and punk heavy soundtrack and doesn’t stop pumping from the jump. Creative details abound and the parts-based film just feels like something raw and real in a sea of pool-heavy sanitation on IG.

This is surf sludge for the core. Your mom aint gonna get it, and neither will the guy investing in the new El Segundo water tub. This is for surfers.

The people you surf with every day will though. Crank it up with them and enjoy. We don’t get things like this (for free I might add!) very often. Buy a SMOT and a grip and a leash and support the cause. Look what they gave you!—Travis Ferré
