Best Section of All-Time: Ozzie Wright in Computer Body

Editor’s Note: As you know by now, Warren Smith is at the controls this week. The multi-talented surfer, artist, producer and creative is currently rolling out plans for Shell Point Beach and Surf Club, a wave pool project in his hometown of Panama City Beach, Florida — a place with plenty of surf culture but not a lot of swell. Warren stepped in to solve that problem. This pool will do wonders for the town and with his creative touch, it’ll be rad too. We’ll go in depth on that tomorrow with Warren, but today, the section that changed Warren forever.—Travis

Ozzie’s section in Computer Body changed my life. The music, the edit, the surfing — I’d never seen anything like it and I wanted to be all of it. The speed, the airs, the mess and noise. I immediately went to the mirror and cut my hair like the cover of the VHS. I always loved surfing, but at that age I was getting into other stuff, I wasn’t super into a whole lot of surf culture. (It took me 30 years to figure out Jimmy Buffet was actually really sick). Skateboarders, musicians, counter culture shit, that’s what I was freaking over, and this floored me. I finally had my surfing Kurt Cobain, and just like Kurt in the 7th grade, Ozzie and this part made me take another hard left into rad shit that helped shape me forever … and thank the freaky punk lords for that.—Warren Smith
