Best Sections of All-Time: Timmy Turner in Second Thoughts

We could talk about this movie every day and it wouldn’t be enough. It is surfing folklore, Huntington Beach legend and just one of the most groundbreaking projects of all-time. I tried to just cut the best section but ended up watching the whole film. And you should too.

Timmy Turner deserves to be annointed king Core Lord and any grom hoping to take his title must chart the uncharted like Timmy and his crew did. The dude’s mission — with his pals Brett Schwartz and Travis Potter — was about as feral as you could get at the time. Couple that with the fact that they would bring wetsuits along because the reef was so dry. They filmed themselves in the tube pre-GoPro. And they ran out of water several times and had to slaughter a baby goat and several chickens to survive when they ran out of food waiting for the waves to break. They got the most insane empty barrels in uncharted Indo you could imagine, and were immortalized when photographer Jason Childs showed up on charter boat and happened to shoot the iconic cover of Timmy for Surfer Mag.

Pay your respects to this film today, and make sure you listen to the story about how he got the cover shot before you call your buddy who dawn patrols core. Then go bacon and eggs at Sugar Shack in HB and hang with Timmy, he’s still there, serving it up. Don’t forget to leave a tip. —Travis Ferré
