It’s not the end of the world.

"Can I Scream?"

"Can I Scream?"

I’ll never miss an opportunity to post this part of Andy Irons from Momentum: Under the Influence. And today, on what would be Andy’s 42nd birthday, I will definitely not be missing. This part marked the day Andy became A.I, permanently moving into our minds and cementing himself as the most bulletproof, stylish, invincible surfer of his or any generation. Please quote me on that. Andy was swag, cocky, enthusiastic and fun, and this film was was a bare foot to the door, announcing his, and a whole new generation’s arrival.

This, the final part of the vid, erased any doubt that he was anything but the guy. And it’s only fitting that this is the last time the iconic M.C.D diamond graced the nose of his board — the indie era of A.I. After the release of this part Andy would go on to win the first of three straight World Titles, add the Billabong sticker and ignite a noisy, reckless, immortal decade of surfing.

Set to Scandinavian hardcore band Refused, this part announced Andy’s arrival with Dennis Lyxzén’s piercing lyrical shout: “Can I scream?” and ends with Andy threading impossible Kandui while the final lines of the song are screamed and repeated until Dennis' vocal cords splinter into a million gooey droplets and hang from the roof of his throat like bat droppings in a slimy cave.
